Study trip to Austria
- 15.10.2018
Employees of the Public Institution Lonjsko polje Nature Park visited the Donau-Auen National Park in Austria from October 15 to 18, 2018. The study trip was organized as part of the project “Increasing the Attractiveness and the Educational Capacity of the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park by building the Visitor Center “Crna roda” Osekovo”, which is co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund (Operational Programme Competitiveness and Cohesion). The project is implemented in cooperation with project partners, the Town of Popovača and Sisak-Moslavina County, and part of the costs are co-financed by the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy.
The Donau-Auen National Park (NPDA) was chosen for the study trip due to the similarity of the two protected areas, both of which are located along preserved natural rivers (Danube and Sava) and the proximity of the capitals (Vienna and Zagreb). The employees of the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park visited the visitor center at the NPDA headquarters – Orth an der Donau and the Wien lo-BAU center in Vienna, where they got acquainted with the management structure, visiting system and tourist infrastructure of the protected area. It was also an opportunity to compare how these two parks work with city and local governments and other participants in their areas and how educational programs are implemented and public awareness of protected areas is raised. In order to get acquainted with the activities of revitalization of the Danube bank in the protected area, a rowing tour along the Danube from Ortho to the border with Slovakia was organized.
During the visit, the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park was invited, as a partner of the Danubeparks network, led by the NPDA, to participate in the work of the General Assembly of the Danubeparks Association, which continues the good cooperation between the two parks.
